The long-expected 2017 Toyota FT-1 super car comes as the ultimate in car design. The FT stands for Future Toyota, and the number 1 represents the non plus ultra that according to Toyota the model will be. It is the result of a 2-year research by CALTY, Toyotas North American Design branch. Its design has been influenced by Toyotas long sports car tradition listing such famed vehicles as the 2000GT, Celica, Supra and the FT-86 (Scion F-RS).
Exterior and Interior
The 2017 Toyota FT-1 features a low-slung profile with aggressive and streamlined features including two intakes with ventilation fans right at the front bumper, and two exhaust pipes round back. In addition, it sports a huge exhaust housed right at the center of the rear bumper. Also, around back, there is a retractable rear wing to improve the aerodynamic qualities. The headlamps and taillights are equipped with customary LED technology, which have already become the norm in upscale models such as this. The car will be sitting on 19-inch alloy wheels and, a little touch of ingenuity from Toyota, on the hood a semi-transparent top will sit right above the engine train.
The interior looks somewhat stiff yet it is highly functional with an intuitive dashboard layout and a touch screen on hand. The two seat arrangement with upscale leather upholstery and bucket style seats is something you would expect in a sport car. As for the comfort features, we can expect to see an automatic climate control and satellite navigation.
Toyota initially marketed 2017 Toyota FT-1 as equipped with an internal combustion engine (in this day and age!). However, they have since moved away from the idea to equip the vehicle with a 2.0-liter inline 4 engine. There is also a possibility that the flagship model will be outfitted with 2.5-litre turbocharged V6, or V8, hybrid powertrain producing up to 450 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. If this proves true, the engine alone will put the model right beside the GTR in terms of horsepower. It will make it possible for the FT-1 to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds, and make the top speeds of up to 180 mph.
2017 Toyota FT-1 Release Date and Price
Toyota is set to release the 2017 Toyota FT-1 sometime in late 2016, making it a 2017 model. The pricing will begin at a whopping $100,00, but as things usually go, all this could be the hype created to raise interest in the upcoming model, and the market price will eventually have to be lowered before the FT-1 hits dealerships.
