The latest rumor has it that the 2017 Toyota GT86 is coming sometime in 2017 as a facelift of the current GT-86. So far not much is known about the new model except for a few spy photos that emerged prior to the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, and which show a car on a trial run under a heavy camouflage.
Although it was impossible to sneak a peak inside the cabin, let alone under the hood, what this comes down to is that the two-door coupe is finally getting an upgrade, which will also affect the current Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S.
Exterior and Interior
Judging from the spyshots, the 2017 Toyota GT86 seems to have remained unchanged with an exception of the front and rear fascias. Up front, the model offers a restyled bumper with a wider air intake. Also, it has received new foglamps, which are smaller than the last time due to the wider intake. Although the camouflaged headlamps didnt reveal much in the way of the design, we can expect them to feature the latest in the LED technology.
Around back, the new GT-86 features a reshaped bumper and a revised diffuser including larger exhaust pipes. The taillights are redesigned, while the spoiler sitting on the top of the trunk lid seems to be slightly wider.
Despite not being able to get inside the cabin, we can predict that Toyota will pretty much offer the same styled interior as the last time with a few improvements, namely, refashioned and more functional center stack and more options on the upholstery.
In all likelihood, the 2017 Toyota GT-86 will come equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo-four that will deliver over 200 horsepower, as compared to the the current engine that is rated at 197 horses. Transmission is likely to remain the same, however both the six-speed manual and six-speed automatic will likely receive updates.
As to the performance, the current model needs 7.6 seconds to make the 0-60 mph dash when equipped with the manual, while the automatic takes 8.2 seconds. Top speed is rated at 140 mph and 210 km/h, respectively, and these figures will likely remain the same. However, there is also rumor of a slightly sportier suspension for the racing circuit.
2017 Toyota GT86 Release Date and Price
The only thing we managed to find out about the release date of the Toyota GT-86 is that it will probably make an appearance sometime in 2017. The pricing for the new model should be at least $27,000.
